Dr. Orla Conlon

MB. BCH BAO, FRCOG Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

I graduated from Queens University Belfast in 1995. I completed my MRCOG in 2000 and became a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2007.

I worked as a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the Western NHS Trust in Northern Ireland for 9 years. As well as my clinical commitment, I also held the post of RCOG Postgraduate Tutor, Clinical Governance Lead and was then appointed as Lead Clinician for the southern sector of the Western Trust.

In 2014, I was the awarded through the RCOG an elevation to Fellowship recognising my dedication to women’s health throughout my career.

I am the Medical Director of Marble Arch Health and I lead a multi professional team specialising in women’s health, with clinics in Enniskillen and Galway. My surgeries are carried out in Kingsbridge Private Hospital Sligo and at Blackrock Health, Galway Clinic. I am currently a member of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Galway Clinic.

In 2018, I graduated as an Associate of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland.

I also spent 5 years working in the Child Abuse and Rape Enquiry Unit (CARE) with the Police Service of Northern Ireland. I hold a Diploma in Psychosexual Medicine, which I feel is essential in my approach to individualising women in the assessment of their needs.

I have always had an interest in peri-natal mental health. I was the co-author of an article in the RCOG’s peer review journal ‘The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist’ on ‘Maternal Depression: The risk factors and treatment options during pregnancy’. I believe in the importance of recognising and managing depression during pregnancy, as well as post-natally.

My other special interests include management of menstrual disorders, treatment of uterine fibroids, management of urinary incontinence, vaginal surgery for uterovaginal prolapse, colposcopy, vulval disorders, recurrent miscarriage, psychosexual disorders and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

I am currently on the Board of the Menopause Society of Ireland and I am the Irish representative on the ISSVD Committee (International Society for the Study of Vulval Disease) for emerging therapies.

Throughout her career I have organised and presented at many national and international conferences and has several publications in peer review journals.

I am also involved in many GP education lectures

I am currently promoting a social media campaign to educate and empower women in relation to their health.

I enjoy Pilates but I would much prefer to be performing a vaginal hysterectomy than cooking a dinner!
